چکیده

The quality assurance of the two Brewer spectrophotometers of the Finnish Meteorological Institute is discussed in this paper. The complete data processing chain from raw signal to high quality spectra is presented. The quality assurance includes daily maintenance, laboratory characterizations, calculation of long term spectral respon-5 sivity, data processing and quality assessment. The cosine correction of the measurements is based on a new method, and included in the data processing software. The results showed that the actual cosine correction factor of the Finnish Brewers can vary between 1.08–1.13 and 1.08–1.12, respectively, depending on the sky radiance distribution and wavelength. The temperature characterization showed a linear temper-10 ature dependence between the internal temperature and the photon counts per cycle, and a temperature correction was used for correcting the measurements. The long term spectral responsivity was calculated using time series of several lamps using two slightly different methods. The long term spectral responsivity was scaled to the irradi-ance scale of the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) for the whole measurement 15 time periods 1990–2006 and 1995–2006 for Sodankyï a and Jokioinen, respectively. Both Brewers have participated in many international spectroradiometer comparisons, and have shown good stability. The differences between the Brewers and the portable reference spectroradiometer QASUME have been within 5% during 2002–2007.

Interactive comment on “TEMIS UV product validation using NILU-UV ground-based measurements in Thessaloniki, Greece” by Melina-Maria Zempila et al

Dear Reviewer, Please find bellow our responses to your valuable comments regarding the manuscript entitled “TEMIS UV product validation using NILU-UV ground-based measurements in Thessaloniki, Greece”. Sincerely, Dr. Melina Zempila. âĂČ -Some rationale should be provided why TEMIS data were evaluated with NILU-UV measurements and not directly with Brewer measurements, which should be the most ...

Quality assurance prusedore in high dose rate bracythrapy

Introduction: Quality assurance is essential for obtaining the best achievable tumor control, avoiding unnecessary side effects, accuracy and safety during performing High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy (BT). Quality assurance is extremely important because HDR BT procedures are performed quickly, with high doses given in a short time period, with little opportunity for correcti...

Evaluation of Accuracy and Quality assurance of external beam therapy with photons

Introduction: Receiving exact dose by the patients is vital in radiotherapy. In radiation therapy, the dosimetry of radiations is too important because of successful radiation inquires for delivering the exact dose to the target volume. This study is to evaluate the tolerances and the accuracy of calculated dose of photon beams in the treatment software system. The TECDOC1583 p...

Comparison of UV irradiances from Aura/Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) with Brewer measurements at El Arenosillo (Spain) – Part 1: Analysis of parameter influence

The main objective of this study is to compare the erythemal UV irradiance (UVER) and spectral UV irradiances (at 305, 310 and 324 nm) from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) onboard NASA EOS/Aura polar sun-synchronous satellite (launched in July 2004, local equator crossing time 01:45 p.m.) with ground-based measurements from the Brewer spectrophotometer #150 located at El Arenosillo (South...

Dead time effect on the Brewer measurements: correction and estimated uncertainties

Brewer spectrophotometers are widely used instruments which perform spectral measurements of the direct, the scattered and the global solar UV irradiance. By processing these measurements a variety of secondary products can be derived such as the total columns of ozone (TOC), sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide and aerosol optical properties. Estimating and limiting the uncertainties of the fin...
